KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 7,000 police personnel will be on duty during Ops Selamat 24, with extra attention given to accident-prone areas on major highways.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said 6,957 traffic cops have been assigned to the operation for the Hari Raya festival.
He stated that the department had identified 25 hotspots and 46 black spots on major highways.
Additionally, there are 407 hotspots and 76 black spots on other roads, including federal and municipal roads nationwide.
“These roads will be given special attention to ensure that all road users can travel safely and comfortably,” he said yesterday.
Comm Mohd Yusri estimated that around 2.2 million vehicles would be on the highways during the holiday period.
He said constant surveillance would be conducted to assist road users in times of need or emergencies.
Ops Selamat 24 will run from March 29 to April 3.
In Seremban, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that JPJ will launch another operation to inspect express buses, beginning today.
He said 2,500 JPJ officers will be deployed for the 16-day operation, with a focus on routes from Kuala Lumpur to the east coast states.
Loke added that buses granted special permits by the Land Public Transport Agency would also be subjected to checks.
“It is my hope that bus companies will remain vigilant.
“I urge them to take this seriously, as we are committed to ensuring that passengers and other road users reach their destinations safely,” he said.
Loke also encouraged the public to report traffic violations via the MyJPJ application or by email at aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my.
