Healthcare provider Tung Shin Hospital celebrated its 144th anniversary with a grand annual dinner in Kuala Lumpur.
The event brought together over 600 staff, donors, partners and special guests to commemo-rate the hospital’s long-standing commitment to compassionate, affordable and quality health-care, as well as the reinstatement of its tax exemption status.
Founded in 1881, Tung Shin Hospital has grown from a charitable institution to a beacon of hope for those seeking accessible healthcare.
Last year, the hospital served 396,189 outpatients, treated 19,849 inpatients across its departments and provided medical care to 43,393 underprivileged patients through its charity clinics.
“We are not just a hospital, we are part of the community,” said Tung Shin Hospital acting president Tan Sri Teo Chiang Kok.
“As we celebrate 144 years of service, we also celebrate our collective dedication to providing compassionate care, ensuring that every patient who walks through our doors is treated with dignity and respect.
“Our mission continues to thrive thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff and the generosity of our supporters,” he added.
The announcement of Tung Shin Hospital’s reinstated tax exemption status was achieved through years of appeals and collaboration with Finance Ministry and the Inland Revenue Board.
Teo expressed his gratitude to the ministry and IRB for reaffirming the hospital’s standing as a community centred, non-profit organisation.
“With this renewed recognition, we can now focus even more on improving our services and expanding our reach to benefit a wider community,” he said.
The hospital aims to construct a new 300-bed facility, and 1,000 parking bays to provide even more comprehensive healthcare services to meet the growing needs of the community.
“We welcome the continued support of individuals and organisations who share our vision for a healthier community,” said Teo.
