Queen’s foundation teams up with hotel to provide basic food items for poor families

Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor has partnered with a hotel in Johor Baru to assist underprivileged families during Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The charity foundation’s chief executive officer Hishamuddin Abdul Rahim said the initiative aimed to assist 200 selected families during this period.

“This is to ensure that they have basic necessities to observe fasting during Ramadan and celebrate Hari Raya.

“The recipients will be given food baskets filled with essential items such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour and canned food items,” he said after signing a memorandum of understanding between the foundation and Amari Hotel for the project.

He added that the initiative reflected the true spirit of Ramadan and hoped that the effort would grow in scale and benefit more families each year.

Amari Hotel general manager Pauline Chua said the collaboration, which also involved Tourism Malaysia Southern Region, Tourism Johor and the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, underscored a shared commitment to uplifting the less fortunate.

She said the success of the initiative relied heavily on the generosity of corporate partners, other organisations as well as individuals who extended their support through sponsorships.

“A grand buka puasa will take place on March 28 as a gesture of appreciation to our sponsors for their support,” said Chua. ― By YEE XIANG YUN
