Council to repair roads, drainage systems damaged in Sibu floods

ALL roads and drainage systems under Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will be repaired and upgraded, says its chairman Clarence Ting.

“The flooding in Sibu last month damaged houses and roads in several areas.

“SMC has identified the affected roads and drainage systems that need repair.

“We had applied for government funding last year and will begin the necessary repair work, including raising the level of flood-prone roads as soon as possible,” he said at the SMC Chinese New Year celebration in Sibu town.

At the event, the council also launched body cameras for its enforcement officers.

“A few days ago, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) introduced body cameras for their enforcement officers.

“Since we have had these cameras for a year, I believe it is time to officially launch them,” Ting said, adding that SMC currently has five body cameras.

The Chinese New Year celebration and body cameras were launched by Sarawak Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Michael Tiang, on behalf of Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Among those present were Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, Sarawak Premier’s political secretary Joshua Ting, SMC deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley, secretary Yong Ing Chu and event organising chairman and SMC councillor Toh Yong Kiang.
