Those heading to Thaipusam sites can still enjoy free services and additional transport options today.
In the Klang Valley, KTM Bhd is offering free Komuter rides for all passengers.
Commuters can use cashless payment methods via apps such as KTMB Mobile, Komuter Link card, Touch ‘n Go card, or debit or credit cards, with charges waived upon checkout.
Physical tickets with a QR code can be obtained at counters for free.
Tomorrow, senior citizens, the disabled and children aged two to six will get a 50% discount, while those under two years old travel for free.
Announcing the deals last week, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said as a safety measure, KTMB had also made arrangements for improved entry and exit procedures, assigning 250 staff, alongside auxiliary police, during the festive period.
Loke added that Prasarana Malaysia, through Rapid KL and Rapid Penang, had arranged for additional buses and increased frequency for the convenience of commuters today.
Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd in a statement said free Rapid KL freeder bus services will be available today along three routes – Pasar Seni hub, Gombak LRT station and Kg Batu MRT station to Batu Caves – at 10-minute intervals.
In Penang, Rapid Penang will provide free bus services from Weld Quay terminal and Penang Adventist Hospital.
The buses will run at 20, 30 and 60-minute intervals.
Loke said Penang Port Commission and Penang Port Sdn Bhd were also offering free ferry rides today.
“Ferry services will operate around the clock and will conclude at 2.30am tomorrow,” he said.
In Johor Baru, Seremban and Ipoh, Loke said Bas.my would provide free rides to festival locations today.
“In Johor Baru, there will be 10 buses passing through Arulmigu Sri Muniswarar Temple in Ulu Tiram, Sri Subramaniar Temple in Masai and Sri Maha Siva Muniswarar Temple in Tampoi.
“In Seremban, 10 buses will pass Sri Balathandayuthapani Temple.
“In Ipoh, there will be a special bus route from Medan Kidd to Sri Subramaniar Temple in Gunung Cheroh.”
