A non-profit organisation has disbursed RM642,586 between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, benefitting 1,805 people across Penang and Kerian district in Perak.
Khor Teng Tong and Hunza Charity Bhd (KTTHCB) director Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong said the Penang-based organisation was dedicated to improving lives.
It focused on providing support in education, health and social welfare to the B40 group, he said.
“As of July 1 last year, we extended financial aid to 145 students from B40 families, with an additional 87 applications approved and awaiting disbursement.
“Another 150 applications are currently under review.
“Moving forward, KTTHCB plans to allocate aid based on a 50% share for students from poor families, 20% for single parents and 10% each for senior citizens, the sick and other needy groups,” he said in a statement.
Founded in 2019, KTTHCB has three core initiatives – Education Outreach Project (EDO), Single Parents’ Outreach (SPO) and Helping Hands Outreach Project (HHO).
Khor added that the EDO Project focused on underprivileged schoolchildren, ensuring their access to basic needs.
The SPO Project supported single parents struggling to provide for their children or dependants abandoned by relatives.
“I was saddened to hear of stories of hardship from SPO recipients, and I hope the aid helps ease their burden,” he said.
“We assisted 425 destitute elderly and sick folk under the HHO Project.
“Our emphasis is mainly on the younger generation as they represent the future of our nation.
“We must ensure that they have the resources to succeed,” Khor added.
