Klang consumer rights activist Devadass Anjan passes away

KLANG Consumer Association (KCA) founder, president and social activist Devadass Anjan has passed away at age 68.

He breathed his last at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah (Hospital Serdang) on Tuesday (Feb 4) after suffering a heart attack.

Devadass, known for being a down-to-earth person, was hailed in the community as the voice of those unaware of their consumer rights.

He founded KCA 33 years ago.

In the course of his work, he exposed numerous scams, helped estate workers who had been cheated and recovered money for housewives who bought defective products or were overcharged.

He majored in business studies and minored in law from the International Islamic University.

Dass, as he was known among the people in Klang, Shah Alam and along Selangor’s coastal areas, supported the development of consumer protection and educating people about their basic rights.

He told StarMetro previously that his mission was to empower consumers so that they could make good choices and get value for their money.

As part of this quest, he would conduct free consumer seminars in schools around Selangor.

A bachelor, he used public transport or walked, as he believed in reducing his carbon footprint and helping to preserve the trees in his Klang neighbourhood.
