MEDIA practitioners in Sibu have been encouraged to highlight “good Sarawak stories”.
“We hope the media can share inspiring stories about Sarawak.
“These narratives will not only motivate people but also help connect Sarawak to the global community,” said Datuk Michael Tiang.
Speaking at a media appreciation night organised by his Pelawan constituency, Tiang, who is the area assemblyman, emphasised the role of the media in delivering accurate information in the age of digital and social media.
“In this era, where misinformation can spread rapidly, mainstream media has a crucial role in fact-checking and truth-telling.
“We rely on the media to ensure the public receives verified news.”
Tiang, who is also state Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, urged the media to highlight development projects and initiatives in the Pelawan constituency, particularly the Sarawak government’s plans for Sibu.
He highlighted significant development projects for Sibu, including the Bukit Assek Redevelopment Plan.
“Deputy Premier Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas announced 17 new road projects in Sibu costing RM835mil and Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg plans to allocate RM500mil for the Bukit Assek redevelopment.
“These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to Sibu.”
Tiang referred to Abang Johari’s statement during the ground-breaking of the Teku-Pasai Siong to Kemuyang link road.
The premier had said the coastal road connecting Kuching to Miri was slated for completion by 2027.
“He also said Sarawak would soon witness the launch of new bridges for the coastal road,” Tiang said.
