SIKH non-governmental organisation Khalsa Diwan Malaysia (KDM) presented monetary aid to some 19 families affected by the December 2024 floods in Tanjung Tualang, Kampar, Perak.

KDM president Jaginder Singh Raipatti said the Sikh settlement in Tanjung Tualang was among the many areas that had been inundated.

He recalled how the village had been affected by the flood for almost a week.

Villagers had to be placed at temporary evacuation centres nearby, he said.

“Due to rising water levels, the villagers were told to evacuate.

“There was little time for many of them to grab their belongings and the damage to most homes was extensive.

“Almost all household items and electrical appliances were destroyed,” he said.

Jaginder said KDM, which was set up in 1903, had reached out to affected families.

“We distributed RM10,500 to 19 families, comprising 16 Sikh and three non-Sikh families.

“Each family received RM500 while RM1,000 was given to the Gurdwara Sahib Sikh Settlement in Tanjung Tualang,” he added.

He said KDM was involved in ongoing discussions between villagers and government agencies to identify the root cause of the floods.
