THOSE looking for great deals on Chinese New Year goodies should check out the charity bazaar by Good Shepherd Services (GSS) on Jan 19.

The bazaar will take place from 10am to 4pm at Level 2, St Regis Kuala Lumpur.

It will feature 12 stalls offering festive hampers, home decorations, dry foodstuffs, perfumes, handicrafts and personal accessories.

Several of the stalls will be managed by GSS staff and volunteers, who will showcase products from livelihood projects in Tambunan, Kiau Nuluh and Kiulu, Sabah.

GSS director Lucy Chong said, “This bazaar not only helps us raise funds but also allows us to share the work GSS does in empowering lives, restoring rights and upholding the dignity of marginalised individuals and communities.”

She also expressed her gratitude to businessman Tan Sri Chua Ma Yu for sponsoring the venue.

At the bazaar, shoppers may make donations to GSS by dropping items bought at the “Buy & Donate” table.

On Jan 19, Chong is also set to launch a cookbook titled Favourite Recipes which comprises 60 recipes contributed by family members and friends.

Chong says GSS also provides grants for women to start their business.

Among the featured recipes are sardine sandwich and mee siam by Chong’s late mother, who was a school canteen operator.

A total of 5,000 copies of the cookbook will be available for sale at RM38 each.

She also thanked the sponsors who covered the book’s publication costs.

All proceeds from the sales will directly support GSS’ initiatives, which have diversified from crisis shelters to services that are more inclusive to include hostels for girls, projects on improving livelihoods and mental health, and ensuring children from disadvantaged families have access to education through accommodation and transport.

Chong said GSS also gave out grants for women to start their business and provided accommodation and transport to school for children from poor families, among others.
