AFTER heavy flooding severely impacted over 150,000 Malaysians in the east coast of peninsular Malaysia, U Mobile has pledged RM3mil to Dana Ihsan Madani for relief efforts.

In addition, the telecommunication company is providing free Internet at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in the affected areas.

The free service will also benefit aid workers in the vicinity, enabling them to coordinate relief and rescue efforts more efficiently, the company said in a media release.

“As part of the relief effort, U Mobile is collaborating closely with Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to provide free connectivity at PPS so flood victims can stay connected with their loved ones, while also enhancing the efficiency of relief and rescue operations,” said U Mobile chief executive officer Wong Heang Tuck.

The donation presentation was at Kompleks Seri Perdana, Putrajaya, with Wong handing the mock cheque to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Last month, U Mobile partnered with National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) on the agency’s early flood warning SMS system.

In July, the telecommunication company collaborated with Mercy Malaysia to provide aid to communities affected by floods in Penampang, Sabah.
