TO inspire collective action to preserve Malaysia’s natural resources and reduce carbon footprint, MCIS Insurance Bhd carried out tree planting in Taman Jaya park in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Teaming up with Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), the insurer aimed to strengthen its commitment to environmental sustainability and promote community engagement.
The event, held in conjunction with MBPJ’s Hari Terbuka Taman Jaya 2024, was launched by Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon.
Also in attendance were MCIS Life chairman Mohammad Nizar Idris and chief executive officer and managing director Prasheem Seebran, and MBPJ Landscape Department director Dr Badrulzaman Jaafar.
They were joined by MCIS Life senior management, local government officials and community members.
The initiative marks another step in MCIS Life’s commitment to sustainability.
Prasheem emphasised the importance of unified efforts in addressing climate change.
“Today, as we plant these trees, we are not just contributing to a greener future – we are planting hope.
“This initiative shows our commitment to sustainability and to ensuring that future generations inherit a planet that is healthier, more vibrant and resilient.
“At MCIS Life, we believe that true progress is rooted in our shared responsibility, not just for the financial well-being of our customers but for the world we all share.”
The company believes tree planting will help mitigate the effects of climate change and regards each tree as a symbol of collective responsibility among individuals, communities and businesses in safeguarding the planet.
Mohamad Zahri highlighted how the programme brought immense benefits, such as the enhancement of air quality and biodiversity.
“Beyond its environmental impact, the programme promotes a healthy lifestyle and nurtures a deeper appreciation for nature.
“I hope this initiative can be institutionalised as an annual programme by MBPJ,” he added.
MCIS Life has launched projects like MCIS Life Legacy Forest at Johor’s Sireh Park in Iskandar Puteri, where the company contributed RM1mil to plant endemic rainforest trees.
Over 6,000 of these trees were planted at the park, which is expected to offset about 567 tonnes of carbon by 2029.
