WITH a little more than a month to the New Year, lots of us are looking forward to the festive season. But before we get there, there’s still plenty of action in the Klang Valley after dark.

There’s something for everyone, ranging from rock and blues to pop, R&B and even jazz.

Here are a few places to enjoy the rhythms of the night and get your groove on.

DUA KL

Dua KL is a relatively new live music venue with a great selection of talented musicians.

Tonight, it’s going to be rocking as the Soul Seekers take the stage. Tomorrow, things take a funky turn, with Kaya showcasing its blend of funk, reggae and rock.

Sunday night is going to be another blast from the past, with 9 Lives featuring Joy Victor.

Fresh from celebrating its first anniversary, Rockafellers PJ continues to turn up the heat.

This Sunday, the outlet’s live series continues with Lighthouse paying tribute to the Beatles, with Gerard Singh on bass, Vijay David on vocals, Raymond Chia and Mark Felix on drums.

On Monday, Sapphire sets the stage on fire, Tuesday will see Nina & Friends in the house, and on Wednesday, the acclaimed Muzza joins the Velvettones on stage.

In the heart of Bangsar’s commercial area, Rock Bottom Bangsar is a great place to kick back and chill after a hard day at work. It’s also a popular spot for football fans to catch live English Premier League matches.

There’s plenty of musical action as well. On Monday nights, Michelle and DD entertain, while on Tuesdays, Arm & Friends are in the house.

For some mid-week fun, join the Vamps, while on Thursday, the Soul Seekers get top billing.

Fans of the 1980s can get their weekly dose of the classics, thanks to The Union Band every Friday night, and on Saturdays, Astra Malaysia will be on stage.

On Sunday nights, the Lighthouse trio of Gerard Singh, Vijay David and Raymond Cheah are in the house – just not this week as they will be hitting up sister outlet Rockafellers PJ for a special tribute to The Beatles.

For the past 11 years, Merdekarya has been at the forefront of promoting the indie scene, hosting not just household names but also up-and-comers who can jam out with the best.

Tonight, folk and blues fans are in for a treat as Karen Nunis joins the Namahages on stage.

Tomorrow night, there is a special event namely the CC Jones Revival (visit www.merdekarya.com for tickets).

Next Thursday, singer-songwriter Razak Aa’i is in the house, while next Friday, folk rebel Azmyl Yunor is back on stage with Truly Asia.

Next Saturday, Amir Alif is on stage for a night of pop and R&B. There is no cover charge, except where noted, but a minimum tip of RM10 for the musicians is expected.

Jao Tim is an elegant venue in the heart of the city. Tonight, the Table Lamp concert series continues with Huei Chan and a special treat as she covers the music of Studio Ghibli.

Tomorrow night and on Sunday, Disney is in the house with Angie Cheah, Clinton, David Soh, Jo Lixian, Joshua Gui and Ronnie paying tribute to the iconic brand on its 100th anniversary.

Next Wednesday is a night of jazz and comedy as Kai Chalmer presents the “Night of the Joker”.

Another hidden gem in the heart of Petaling Jaya’s SS2, A Bar Above plays host to seven nights of music a week.

This week’s line-up kicks off with the Extreme Duo on Monday and Mischief on Tuesday.

The Aristocrats and 3 for Ten serve up mid-week vibes on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

On Saturday, there’s an extra special dose of vibes as the Zarsadias Brothers deliver good, old-fashioned rock and roll.

On Sunday, it’s a double header with axeman Colin Jansen singing as part of Retro Groove and Aba’s Notorious rounding up the night.
