Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) held its Council Installation Night with some 1,000 guests in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

The event, launched by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, saw participation from the retail sector, shopping mall management, major property developers and retail-related industries at One World Hotel.

The occasion marked the installation of the new MRCA president, Datuk Ken Phua, along with the swearing-in of the new council members who will lead the association for the 2024-2026 term.

Phua, who was elected during the 27th MRCA annual general meeting on April 18, succeeds Datuk Sharan Valiram, the 2022-2024 president.

Phua, who is Bentley Music Group managing director, has been a prominent figure in the music industry for over 30 years.

Under his leadership, Bentley Music has expanded across six core divisions, impacting areas beyond retail, including corporate and institutional advisory, and sound reinforcement for applications such as hotels like Sheraton and Marriott, F&B outlets like Hard Rock Cafe, and entertainment systems on Genting Cruise ships.

Stepping into his role as president, Phua said, “I am filled with optimism as we look to the future.

“Together with my council team, we aim to enhance our collective capabilities, support our members’ growth, and shape the future of retail in Malaysia.”

Gobind congratulated the newly appointed council team members.

“As the digital world grows at an unprecedented rate, communication professionals face both challenges and opportunities.

“Your task is to lead MRCA with vision and integrity, creating an environment where innovation flourishes and every voice in the retail sector is heard,” he said.
