Putrajaya school tops hockey tournament


SMK Putrajaya Presint 16 boys and girls teams celebrating their win at the Education Ministry Hockey Stadium.

SMK Putrajaya Presint 16 (1) took centre stage in the Putrajaya School Sports Council 2024 (MSSWPP) hockey tournament after both Under-18 boys and girls teams emerged champions.

The boys clinched victory after five consecutive match wins.

Their final match against SMK Sultan Alam Shah was a nail-biter, ending in a 2-1 shootout that sealed their win.

Not to be outdone, the girls showcased their prowess on the field with four straight wins, culminating in a dramatic 5-4 victory over SMK Putrajaya Presint 14 (1) in the final.

The competition was held at the Education Ministry Hockey Stadium in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur.

Several players from the school were also recognised for their performance.

In the Girls Under-18, Nur Aisyah Samsuddin won the most outstanding player and best scorer awards.

For the Boys Under-18, awards went to Muhammad Yusof Shamsuddin (best scorer), Muhammad Adib Adha Norhisham (best keeper) and Muhammad Irfan Haziq Mohd Fahmie (most outstanding player).

SMK Putrajaya Presint 16 (1) coach Noor Akmaniah Arwae was full of praise for her teams, highlighting their unwavering focus and determination throughout the tournament.

“Their consistent quality of play and maintained rhythm were the keys to their success.”

Adding to the celebration was the announcement that nine players from the boys’ team have been selected to represent Putrajaya in the upcoming Malaysia School Sports Council (MSSM) Under-18 tournament set to take place in September.
