The National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) in Ipoh, Perak has become a local community hub where people can engage in various activities, including accessing information and getting help with their homework.
SM Anderson student, Ahmad Haziq Ilhami Masri, 15, spends about six hours a day at Nadi to complete his homework and assignments on weekends.
The second of four siblings, Ahmad said the centre was very useful and convenient for him and the community, as it offered interesting programmes such as tuition classes, communal activities, and skill-building workshops like photo editing.
“Sometimes, Nadi also serves as a place for my friends and I to de-stress from studies.
“We sing, work on editing projects, and recently created posters and acting scripts that require internet research.”
“My siblings, aged eight to 17, also frequently visit Nadi to use the Internet among other facilities,” he told Bernama at Nadi Kampung Dato Ahmad Said Tambahan 2 in Manjoi.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier launched the Nadi centre with Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil in attendance.
Housewife Shahrol Bariah Isa, 50, said the centre provided numerous facilities and opportunities for B40 folk.
“We greatly benefit from this Internet centre, from using computers and printers for our children’s school work.
“Nowadays, many government forms need to be filled out online, so Internet access is essential.
“I hope there will be more facilities later, especially for sharing accurate and timely information.”
Kampung Dato Ahmad Said Tambahan 2 Nadi manager Nural’ain Mohammed Nasib said the new centre aimed at providing more facilities and fostering closer community ties.
“This Internet centre helps us connect with the community,” she said.
“We can teach them skills such as how to prepare paperwork, and also assist with filling out the Main Database System (Padu).
“We share information about Padu on social media with the local community, inviting them to the centre and assisting them in entering their information into the system.”
