Growing demand for private education

THE annual open day of a private international school in Johor Baru drew some 2,000 people who wanted to know more about the academic experience at the institution.

Paragon Private and International School deputy director Chua Sing Zhi said the projects that were showcased during the open day were the original work of the students.

There were models of erupting volcanoes, iconic buildings and science projects on display.

There was a fashion show too.

“There were performances by our students at the auditorium including dances, martial arts performances and choirs,” Chua added.

Meanwhile, Paragon International School director Elynn Pang said that about 20% of the school’s enrolment were international students.

The three countries with the most number of students at the school are South Korea, China and India.

Paragon Private School director Dr Ng Hien Ghim said there had been a growing demand in Malaysia for private schooling.

“We use the national curriculum and the students will sit for national examinations such as Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia,” said Ng.
