‘Upgrade of Section 16 walkway in PJ ready by Nov 18’

THE upgrading of pedestrian walkways and other related works in Section 16, Petaling Jaya, Selangor are expected to be completed on Nov 18.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the works around Phileo Damansara MRT station, Jalan 16/11 and Jalan 16/15 started on July 1.

“The upgrade will provide comfort and safety to MRT users around the area.

“They are part of projects for first and last mile improvement under Petaling Jaya Local Plan 1 and Petaling Jaya Local Plan 2,” he said during Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) full board meeting.

In a StarMetro article on May 20, “Section 16 to have pedestrian spaces”, it was reported that more than 1,000 commuters would benefit from upgrades to the pedestrian walkway from Phileo Damansara MRT station to nearby residential and commercial areas.

The proposed design features a 500m walkway stretching from the traffic light intersection of Jalan 17/1 and Jalan 16/11 to Phileo Damansara 2 commercial area.

It will also see features such as bollards to keep pedestrians safe from vehicles, a zebra crossing at the entrance of Phileo Damansara 1 and lights under the ramp.

On a separate matter, Mohamad Zahri said construction of hawker stalls in Damai Setia People’s Park, or better known as Urban Park 1 in Damansara Damai, was completed at the end of June.

“The park now has 16 hawker stalls and 29 stalls for car boot sales.

“Other facilities include electrical sockets, taps, toilets, surau and integrated playground,” he said.

On the issue of dengue, Mohamad Zahri said MBPJ recorded 133 cases in the 28th epidemiological week, 1% lower than the previous week.

The cumulative number of dengue cases within the council’s jurisdiction since January stands at 4,220.
