THE Methodist Boys’ School (MBS) in George Town is committed to providing the best STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education for its students.
This was evident by the success of the school’s Form Three students Jagathes Sivakumar, Bhavin Singh Seravanah Singh, Hemanth Raj Poomathan and Rishi Kartikeyean Kumaresan who invented a long-range plane as part of the school’s “STEM Month”.
The enthusiastic boys said it took them three months to build the plane which they demonstrated to Buletin Mutiara during the “STEM Month” launch.
In his speech, MBS’ senior assistant (administration) Dr Taufek Muhamad emphasised the importance of STEM education and thanked all the contributors and relevant agencies for their support.
Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, who launched the event, advised MBS students to obey their parents and listen to their teachers.
“Education will take you to great heights. Always bear in mind that without teachers, we cannot progress.
“All of you are the future generation of Penang,” he said.
Mohd Mursalin Ramli@Yusof from the Penang Education Department said it was one step ahead of other states in term of STEM initiatives.
The activities throughout the month included a STEM carnival, lucky draw, sudoku, science radar exhibition, science quiz and competitions for Rubik’s cube, Pythagoras tree, maths puzzles and straw aeroplanes.
