A joint initiative by Sibu Jaya developer Amcorp SibuJaya Sdn Bhd and Masjid Al-Madinah Al-Husna to host a multifaith breaking of fast drew more than 1,000 people from all walks of life.

The initiative prompted by Amcorp Group executive chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim reflected the inclusive and harmonious nature of the township in Sibu, Sarawak.

Speaking from Kuala Lumpur, Amcorp chief operating officer Haji Azlan Baqee Abdullah emphasised the organisation’s belief in promoting inclusivity and understanding among people of various backgrounds.

“This multiracial and multifaith breaking of fast is a timely opportunity to consolidate and strengthen bonds among us,” he said.

Joshua Ting, newly appointed political secretary to Sarawak’s Premier, was thrilled to receive the invitation.

“As Sarawakians, this is what we are all proud of.

“We focus on the similarities that bring us together and celebrate the differences that make us unique,” he said.

The former Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) councillor said that he felt welcomed by mosque committee members and was delighted by how at ease everyone was with each other.

SRDC secretary Ng Siang Wei said the breaking of fast event gave participants an opportunity to learn from one another.

“This event serves as a testament to the power of community and the importance of embracing diversity in today’s society.”

Among those who attended were representatives from the Sarawak Orphans Welfare Institution (Peryatim), Rumah Sri Kenangan seniors home, non-governmental organisations, government agencies, neighbourhood committees and voluntary organisations.

They were welcomed by Amcorp Sibujaya staff alongside mosque committee chairman Samsul Mostapha.
