Traffic solutions for Pasir Gudang

Asman Shah says both projects are needed to improve traffic flow.

A FLYOVER project is expected to start in the second quarter of next year in Jalan Besar near KPJ Pasir Gudang Hospital.

Pasir Gudang mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the project would take about two years to be completed.

“The progress is a bit slow as we are still in the midst of redirecting all the communication and electricity cables and water supply pipes that are buried underground,” he said.

He added that over RM5mil had been allocated by Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) for this purpose.

“This city was first developed by Johor Corporation (JCorp) back in the 1970s and we took over only in 2009, so there were a lot of things that we did not know.

“This is why we did a development survey first to identify all the buried utility lines and cables to ensure that the flyover project will not disrupt power or water supply.”

Asman Shah was speaking after chairing a full council meeting at Menara Aqabah in Pasir Gudang.

He pointed out that the flyover was important to help facilitate seamless travel to Johor Baru.

“The council is also planning to expand Persiaran Seri Alam from the current two lanes to three lanes starting next year.

“The development budget is from the Improvement Service Fund (ISF) contribution from the developers, which is RM3.9mil,” he said.

The stretch is about 2km long and the expansion would start from the Seri Alam district police headquarters intersection heading towards Kota Puteri.

The project is needed following complaints from road users on the massive congestion during peak hours, he said.

“The congestion happened after we opened up the 1.3km shortcut that connects Taman Nusa Damai and Taman Scientex.

“The project is expected to start around the first quarter of next year and will be completed within six months.”

MBPG will also place smart traffic lights at all 33 intersections in the city to ease congestion next year.

“We are also planning to place 5,388 solar lights in all housing areas and 1,000 LED lights on the protocol road,” he added.
