Residents on Jalan Wawasan 3/9 in Puchong want entire road strengthened

Residents living along Jalan Wawasan 3/9 in Pusat Bandar Puchong, Selangor, fear for their safety after Saturday’s landslide at the road although their stretch was not affected in that incident.

Low Mee Yeng of Taman Wawasan in Puchong, urged the authorities to implement safety measures in front of her house too.

“I am worried the landslide might have a ripple effect along the road.

“Thankfully, there was no heavy rain on Sunday,” she said.

A landslide occurred at 7.25pm on Dec 16, resulting in an order for occupants of nine terrace houses to evacuate.

Mee Yeng said she was shocked by the landslide as she has lived in Taman Wawasan since 1999 with no such incident before.

“Although I did not see any visible soil issues prior to the landslide, I have noticed cracks in the walls of some houses over the years,” she added.

Her brother, CK Low, hopes that experts will monitor the situation closely and advise them.

“As residents, we are very worried about our houses being so close to the disaster site.

“We want to know if other houses along Jalan Wawasan 3/9 are safe. We have been having sleepless nights,” he said.

C. Seow wants the authorities to inspect the huge slope on the other side of the fence facing their houses.

“Late last year, I complained to Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) about trees on the slope but the workers only cut the branches that were on our side.

“Some just threw the pruned branches over the fence onto the other side,” said Seow.

At press time, 52 sheet piles were installed at the site of the landslide as soil movement had been detected in front of the gates of several affected houses.
