SK Taman Megah continues to nurture unity by celebrating different fests

SCHOOLS foster more than academic excellence; they serve as melting pots for cultural understanding.

Recognising this, SK Taman Megah in Petaling Jaya has long championed diversity by celebrating a wide range of festivals.

The school hosted a vibrant Deepavali celebration recently which featured 90 pupils from different backgrounds.

Some parents and teachers also joined the pupils in the stage performances which showcased Indian culture.

Headmaster Zubir Yaacob said they were glad to do their part in fostering relationships among parents, pupils, teachers and the neighbouring community.

SK Taman Megah Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman Yuwaraj Kumar Balakrishnan said the school was keen to maintain its unique tradition of celebrating different cultural events.

“The performers were guided by teachers and parents.

“I am glad to see that hundreds of other pupils and parents as well as community members showed up to support the event.”

Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who was guest of honour, said such expressions of unity at the school level were much needed.

“I know this school also celebrates events such as the Mid-Autumn Festival.

“These pupils will grow up being well-versed in other cultures.

“They will then champion the rights of all in the country,” said Jamaliah.

The event started with a colourful peacock dance followed by a lamp- lighting ceremony by Jamaliah.

Besides the energetic performances, food stalls were set up to sell Indian food such as idli and pani puri.

Door gifts comprising snacks like murukku were given to attendees.
