SIX Hindu families in Seremban, who faced hardship when preparing for the Festival of Lights, received a boost this year from a property developer.

Aid was handed out under the annual Deepavali Charity Cheer programme run by IJM Land, developer of the Seremban 2 township.

Each family received RM1,000 cash aid and goodie bags filled with essential items like rice, cooking oil, flour and biscuits.

IJM Land Berhad senior general manager Chai Kian Soon said that as in previous years, the initiative focused on relieving the financial burden of low- income families and spreading positivity.

“Witnessing the resilience and perseverance of the families we supported this year has truly reaffirmed our belief in the power of community assistance.

“We want to ignite a spark of hope in their hearts for Deepavali,” he said.

Among the beneficiaries was single mother of two 47-year-old M. Tilakawati.

Her husband recently passed away due to cancer, leaving her the sole breadwinner.

A cleaner at a local international school, Tilakawati struggles to put food on the table.

Another recipient A. Ponnamah, 73, is battling Parkinson’s disease and is struggling to support herself and her adopted son.

Chai said IJM Land took pride in being a pillar in the company’s communities, always recognising the importance of uplifting those families in dire need.

“It is our privilege to serve the Seremban people and try to make any kind of meaningful difference, big or small, in their lives.

“This Deepavali Charity Cheer programme is a testament to our enduring commitment to rekindling the festive spirit and spreading joy,” he said.

Chai added that by extending a helping hand, the developer hoped to create a ripple effect of positivity, togetherness and unity.
