SHAH Alam City Council (MBSA) organised a dinner to show appreciation for the community’s senior citizens.

The dinner at MBSA Convention Centre, which was attended by Selangor women empowerment and welfare committee chairman Anfaal Saari, also celebrated the 23rd anniversary of Shah Alam’s city status.

MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Division head Mohd Azhar Mohd Sharif, in a statement, said the programme had enhanced the relationship between MBSA and senior citizens, in line with sustainable development goals.

“We hope this programme can nurture the spirit of courtesy and appreciation towards senior citizens while encouraging more involvement by them in MBSA’s community activities,” he said.

The dinner also saw RM13,000 and RM10,000 in donations being handed over by MBSA to Orang Besar Daerah Petaling Datuk Emran Kadir, who is also Shah Alam Senior Citizens Club president, and Persatuan Bekas Pegawai dan Kakitangan MBSA representative Ahmad Zamri Kamaruddin, respectively.

A total of 100 copies of the Quran were also presented to Emran by Yayasan Restu deputy general manager Mohd Taufik Izham Ismail for Shah Alam Senior Citizens Club members.

Also at the dinner were Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship development committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi, then Shah Alam mayor Dr Nor Fuad Abdul Hamid and Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof.

MBSA also organised The Altruism 3.0 Festival 2023 with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) at MBSA Convention Centre.

The festival aims at encouraging selflessness among people with regard to the disabled community.

In a statement, MBSA said experts from the special needs (OKU) community and related fields shared ways to improve inclusion and accessibility for those with disabilities.

Participants from all walks of life came together to emphasise education, equity and lifelong learning opportunities for all while nurturing a humanitarian spirit.

Also present were Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation deputy chairperson Lim Bee Eng, alongside Nor Fuad and UiTM Disability Service Unit director Dr Roslina Alias.

Attendees had the opportunity to participate in workshops on Braille and sign language, as the festival aimed to promote understanding and communication with individuals who used these methods as their primary means of interaction, MBSA said.

A diverse range of activities including Braille games were designed to give attendees a taste of sightless engagement.

Additionally, there were also sports demonstrations highlighting the skills of OKU athletes.

These activities not only provided participants with experiences but allowed them to understand needs of persons with disabilities.

There were also health-related services including massages, haircuts and health screenings to support and promote holistic well-being among attendees.

According to the statement, several organisations and communities showcased their products, services and opportunities as part of their social responsibility for networking and collaboration while supporting humanitarian causes.
