Joyous Penangites

Participants of I Love Malaysia Walk 2023 in jubilant patriotism.

A HEIGHTENED sense of patriotism, pride, joy and excitement aptly describes the mood of those who took part in several Malaysia Day celebrations in Penang.

At the state-level celebration at Dewan Milenium, Kepala Batas, VIPs and guests were mesmerised by a troupe of 20 from the Penang Cultural Council and their engaging performances.

The highlight was “Tarian Lima Bangsa”, which got the audience waving the Jalur Gemilang to the beat of the music.

In another celebration, this time outdoors, a wet day and gloomy skies did nothing to dampen the mood of some 2,000 participants who took part in I Love Malaysia Walk 2023 that began on Beach Street.

Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk A. Rajendran flagged off a sea of walkers who proudly waved mini flags as they went past the island’s landmarks such as Fort Cornwallis, St George’s Church, Goddess of Mercy Temple and Masjid Kapitan Keling along the 5km route.

There was even a Zumba session after the walk.
