TAMAN Danau Kota Flats residents in Kuala Lumpur are upset that the supposedly RM300,000 community hall was built to look like a “shed”.

The structure that was built within the flats' vicinity was supported by several stilts and topped with a small roof.

Residents association committee member Kamarul Zaman Mohamad said residents were angry with the facility.

"We tried to hold two or three events as trials at the hall but it was not suitable, especially when it rained.

"I had to fork out RM15,000 to add awnings to prevent rain from coming in," he told a press conference held at the flats here on Tuesday (July 4).

The five blocks of flats have 2,000 units with approximately 5,000 residents and lacked community facilities.

Former Wangsa Maju MP Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew had allocated RM300,000 of her MP's allocation to build the hall.

After several site visits with the Prime Minister's Department Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), the site for the hall was confirmed in July last year.

Tan, who was also at the press conference, said she received a complaint from Kamarul Zaman in May that the hall was not built according to specifications.

"I was shocked to see the hall, which cost RM300,000 was more like a shed and the office was so small it could barely accommodate six people.

"The structure of the so-called 'dewan' (hall) and the office could not have cost more than RM150,000.

"I asked ICU for the design plan but was not given the necessary documents until the structure was completed," she said.

Tan lodged a complaint with the ICU on May 20 and asked for a meeting to rectify the problem.

On June 2, ICU replied that it had conducted an internal investigation and did not find any irregularity.

Tan urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to intervene.

"I will see this matter through until it is resolved," she said.
