MAGNUM Corporation (Magnum) has been chosen as the winner of the Automation – Retail Category at the Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards 2023 for its outstanding efforts in leveraging technology to transform the Number Forecast Operators (NFO) industry and drive economic growth in Malaysia.

At the presentation held in Kuala Lumpur, Magnum was bestowed with the award for revolutionising the NFO industry by introducing its pilot self-service kiosks (SSKs) initiative.

The first-of-its-kind SSKs were deemed to enhance customer experience, improve operational efficiencies and promote sustainability in Malaysia’s NFO landscape.

“We are truly honoured to be recognised for our efforts in spearheading digitalisation initiatives,” said executive director Krian Upatkoon.

“As a customer-centric organisation, Magnum is pioneering the way in providing modern in-store purchase experiences, and retail automation is one of our key strategies in transforming the company from conventional to extraordinary.

“Our SSKs play a vital role in this journey, truly transforming the NFO industry.“This award is a testament to Magnum’s commitment to accelerating growth and promoting a sustainable future by converting a traditional business model to a modernised retail automation model with technological innovation,” added Upatkoon.

Rolled out in January 2023 as a preliminary pilot and proof-of-concept initiative, the SSKs are providing customers with a seamless, omnichannel brand experience, offering greater speed and convenience to complete their transactions accurately and without having to wait in line.

The implementation of the SSKs is also driving Magnum to achieve its environmental, social and governance goals.By eliminating the need for paper play slips, the kiosks have significantly reduced paper waste and resource consumption, supporting the company’s commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.“For over half a century, the NFO industry in Malaysia has traditionally relied on a conventional retail model. This has led Magnum to innovate, leading the way in providing more modern in-store purchase experiences with our SSKs,” said Magnum executive vice-president and group chief operating officer Chong Fhui.

“The bar is constantly rising to produce digital innovation that will continuously improve the overall customer experience.

“Our transformation journey not only focuses on innovative digitalisation strategies that will revitalise our business and improve operational efficiencies but also deliver unmatched customer experiences.

“This honour serves as a driving force for Magnum to continue its pursuit of innovation and excellence.

“Magnum is resolute in its efforts to develop solutions that enhance the customer experience and promote sustainability,” said Chong Fhui.

He added that the company remained committed to leading the NFO industry towards driving the nation’s economic growth and providing more innovative and personalised customer experiences.
