THE beautification project of the Jentayu and Kenari low-cost flats in Taman Kangkar Pulai, Johor Baru, is expected to start this month.
Iskandar Puteri mayor Datuk Haffiz Ahmad said Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) is allocating RM7mil for the project.
He said the two blocks of the five-storey walk-up flats with 400 units were chosen for the project under the Bangsa Johor Sejahtera programme.
“The low-cost flats in Taman Kangkar Pulai were chosen as its joint management body (JMB) is proactive and committed to provide conducive living conditions,’’ Haffiz told StarMetro.
He hoped that other low- and medium-cost flat dwellers under MBIP’s jurisdiction would emulate the commitment shown by the Kenari and Jentayu residents in keeping their living space clean.
“Residents should not procrastinate in paying their monthly maintenance fees too,’’ said Haffiz.
He said failure or delay in paying the maintenance fees on time could hamper the JMB from upkeeping and maintaining the flats properly.
“The state government has given its approval to MBIP for the beautification project of the Jentayu and Kenari low-cost flats, and that it had also agreed to giving a one-off RM200,000 allocation for the initiative.
“The allocation includes building additional parking bays and pedestrian walkways,’’ he said.
Haffiz said the city council also worked closely with the Local Government Development Ministry in maintaining and repainting the low-cost flats in Iskandar Puteri, where they received RM400,000 last year.
