‘Don’t ignore danger from above’

DANGER lurks at a playground on Jalan 9/2a, Taman Wilayah in Selayang, Kuala Lumpur.

Resident Jay Boon Kiat said tree branches would often fall and hit unsuspecting visitors.

This happens whenever there are strong winds or during a downpour.

Jay said his car, which was parked beside the playground, was badly damaged last year.

“A huge branch fell on top of my car,” said the food trader.

StarMetro visited the playground in Kuala lumpur and found huge trees that formed canopies overhead.

They looked overgrown and in need of pruning.

Residents say DBKL previously planned to cut down some trees.

Oversized tree roots had also protruded from the ground and damaged the jogging track.

Rubbish could be seen scattered and the playground did not look well-maintained.

Jay has lodged several complaints with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) about the damage caused by falling tree branches.

“It is very worrying because people use the park daily.

“What if the tree branches hit them?

“Before the movement control order, it looked like DBKL was planning to cut down several trees but nothing has happened since then,” he added.

Another resident who wanted to be known only as Cheah said a huge branch fell and broke his car’s windshield about half a year ago.

“I spent several hundred ringgit to repair my car,” said the retiree.

DBKL had not responded to queries at press time.
