Kepong residents want disused building torn down

The area surrounding the building in Jalan Kuang Bulan, Kepong, is overgrown and strewn with rubbish.

Kepong residents want an abandoned building in the area demolished and a carpark or food stalls to be set up there.

The building along Jalan Kuang Bulan has not been used for a few years and the surrounding area was overgrown, they said.

Hor Kam Yeow, who lives opposite the building, said it should be demolished.

“It would be better if more parking can be provided.”

Another resident, Choi Lan Fong, said that at night, residents would park on the roadside and the situation worsened during peak hours.

“Take a look around, you will not find a proper parking spot.”

Kepong activitist Yee Poh Ping said electricity and water supply to the building had been cut.

“I suggest for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to rent it out or turn it into a cafe or build more parking bays.

“The area surrounding the building is unkempt and might become an illegal dumpsite if something is not done,” he said.

Another resident, Chong Kwek Fah, said, “Pests could be breeding at the building due to the lack of maintenance.”

A whiteboard inside the premises showed the year 2017, indicating the probable time it was last used.

The ceiling was also falling apart, further proof that it had not been maintained for a long time.

In reply to StarMetro, a DBKL spokesperson said the building was previously used by the Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam).

“The building was handed back to DBKL but it will have to be repaired and cleaned since it has been left empty for so long.

“DBKL has received applications from several NGOs to use it.

“They will be studied before a decision is made at a DBKL committee meeting.”
