VETERAN politician Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) celebrated his 80th birthday with party leaders and members.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Khui Hian said it was hard to find someone like Dr Soon who was solidly loyal to the party.
“He has contributed immensely to the state and the people. When he was the Sarawak Public Health assistant minister, he was dedicated to Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, who was then the minister,” Dr Sim said at the recent birthday celebration.
The Deputy Premier said Dr Soon was like “a big tree” to the party.
“We are very proud of his struggle for the party. Dr Soon is an example to all of us.”
Also present at the event were Dr Soon’s wife Datin Roseline Kho, Dudong SUPP chairman Wong Ching Yong, secretary Kapitan Kong Sing Ping, Bumiputera Unit chairman Penghulu Paing Tawi and 200 party members.
Dr Soon, who has retired from active politics, was Dudong assemblyman for four terms from 1991 to 2011.
He was the assistant minister of Public Health and Housing from 2006 to 2011.
He is currently the adviser of SUPP Dudong.
