Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, through its Pahang office, has been extending help to 837 flood victims in the state since March 1.

Its deputy minister Fuziah Salleh said the aid, which included food bank packages and “Rahmah Baskets”, was given to those affected by the disaster in Chini, Raub, Jerantut, Temerloh and Rompin.

“The ministry mobilised Food Bank Malaysia and Rahmah Basket programmes to help victims.

“The secretariat of Food Bank Malaysia and its strategic partners have distributed ready-to-eat meals and personal care necessities to victims in 41 relief centres in Terengganu, Perak, Pahang, Johor and Kelantan,” Fuziah said after handing out aid to flood victims in Rompin.

A total of 313 families from Orang Asli and traditional villages (Kampung Bukit Serok, Kampung Meripoh, Kampung Rekoh, Kampung Perwira Jaya, Kampung Lubok Batu, Kampung Gadak and Kuarters DARA Teh) received the food baskets and cash.

Fuziah said the ministry’s strategic partners who gave the aid included Food Bank Malaysia Foundation, the Companies Commission of Malaysia, BS Freshmart and Mawaddah, which is a non-governmental organisation.

The cash aid amounting to RM72,000 was contributed by Tabung Musaadah Jakim and Yayasan Takwa.

Rompin is one of the most populated districts affected by the recent floods.

“Based on the statistics released by the Welfare Department, 6,764 families were affected by the floods.

“This resulted in 2,671 victims being placed at 22 relief centres,” said Fuziah.

She expressed the ministry’s gratitude to donors.

“Donations from companies, organisations and individuals are most welcome,” she said. — By ONG HAN SEAN
