THE spirit of harmony reigned at the Chinese New Year open house of the Bukit Tengah Village Community Management Council (MPKK).

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow graced the event held at Dewan Komuniti Bayu Mutiara in Bukit Mertajam.

Chow said Malaysians were blessed to live in a multiracial and peaceful country and they should respect each other’s religion and culture.

“This can help foster unity, which is our most valuable asset,” said Chow in his speech.

“The public should also avoid certain politicians who stir up racial issues to cause conflict, tension and hatred. Don’t fall for their rhetoric,” he said.

Also present at the open house was Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao Leung. -– By M. SIVANANTHA SHARMA
