GE15: Maintenance of public facilities, traffic issues key concerns in Bandar Tun Razak

Wan Azizah (seated, third from right) has a light moment with the voters of Taman Jaya in the Bandar Tun Razak constituency.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bandar Tun Razak constituents just want their future MP to ensure proper maintenance of infrastructure and facilities in neighbourhoods.

Mohd Faizal Kamalrulzaman, 48, said residents were most concerned about matters that affect their daily life, not complex issues.

"Clogged and collapsed drains as well as faulty streetlights are some of the common issues in residential areas, such as in Taman Jaya.

"Traffic congestion is another problem here because there are two secondary schools and one primary school in this area," he added.

Pakatan Harapan candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail said she had been told that maintenance of public facilities, cleanliness and stray animals were some of the prevalent problems in this old township.

She said these problems were compounded over the years and she would look at both short- and long-term solutions.

"For the long-term, we need to look at the specific aspects individually, such as poor lift maintenance and some houses not having the Certificate Of Completion and Compliance (CCC)," she told reporters when met in Taman Jaya.

Later, during her visit to Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Wan Azizah also pledged to improve senior citizens' welfare in view of Malaysia becoming an ageing nation.

"One of the ways to support the elderly is to have a place to care for them and also empower them to be independent.

"This is also one of the agendas I was working on when I was the Women, Family and Community Development minister," she said.

In the 15th General Election contest for Bandar Tun Razak, Wan Azizah is facing Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Chew Yin Keen (MCA) and Perikatan Nasional's Datuk Kamarudin Jaafar (Bersatu).
