TREE huggers can rejoice with the launch of the “Mission GreenPossible: 100 Million Trees by 2025” campaign aimed at environmental conservation.
The campaign was launched by Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department director-general Datuk Mohd Ridza Awang, Touch ‘n Go (TNG) Digital Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Alan Ni and Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YHM) chief executive officer Amin Abdullah in Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur.
In line with the aim of planting more trees, YHM plans to contribute towards conservation of forests through the campaign.
With this collaboration, TNG ewallet users can make a donation in a seamless and paperless manner via the app.
The campaign focuses on raising awareness of the importance of forests and building appreciation among the public.
Each donation received will contribute towards the growth of a virtual tree that can be viewed and tracked on the campaign’s dedicated microsite, through the app or web. For each 100% grown virtual tree, a batch of actual trees will be planted by YHM.
Upon planting the first batch of trees, the virtual tree planting process will be restarted so users can grow more virtual trees which will then drive the planting of more trees.
The campaign aims to ensure that 54% of Malaysia’s land area will be covered by forests.
To date, 46 million trees comprising over 1,300 species have been planted nationwide under this campaign.
There is a remainder of 54 million trees to be planted to achieve the target of 100 million trees by 2025.Ni said the campaign not only benefitted TNG group’s sustainability goals but also helped to address the need as a business to empower Malaysians with the knowledge and actions for a cleaner and greener planet for future generations.“This collaboration with YHM is indeed meaningful as we see our company as part of the sustainability ecosystem, and we have a part to play in ensuring that Mother Earth continues to grow healthily,” he added.
