TWO popular restaurants in George Town have pledged to contribute during the 15th General Election (GE15) when Malaysians cast their votes on Nov 19.
Don Western & Grill Cafe Restaurant will provide free food packs to members of the media covering the events on polling day.
Its director Syed Mohamad Syed Hassan Aidid said the restaurant would provide about 80 to 100 packs of food and drinks to reporters and photographers.
“We know how the media plays an important role by disseminating news without fear or favour,” he said.
He added that he felt it was his obligation to contribute a bit on such an important day.
Syed Mohamad extends an invitation to media members to the Upper Penang Road eatery on Nov 19 between 11am and 2pm.
He said the restaurant would also be offering a discount to voters after they had cast their ballots at the polling centres.
“All voters have to do is show their inked index finger to get the 10% discount,” he said, adding that the offer would be valid for certain dishes at the restaurant.
Meanwhile, popular nasi kandar restaurant Hameediyah Restaurant is also planning to contribute free food to GE15 volunteers working at voting centres on polling day.
Restaurant director Muhammad Riyaaz Syed Ibrahim said the eatery had not worked out how to distribute the food.
“We will either send it to the nearby polling centres or the volunteers can collect food at our restaurant by showing their Election Commission tags,” he said.
To encourage more people to go out and cast their ballots, the restaurant will be offering a 5% discount to those who have voted on polling day.
