JAMBATAN Kedua Sdn Bhd’s (JKSB) commitment to environmental conservation was obvious when it organised a mangrove tree planting programme.
The event involved 60 staff members and volunteers from JKSB, Penang Environment Department (JASNPP) and Penang Inshore Fishermen Welfare Association (Pifwa).
Five hundred mangrove seedlings were planted with the aim to restore and protect the mangrove forest at Sungai Chenaam in Nibong Tebal, Penang.
The programme was held in conjunction with the state-level Environment Day 2022.
JKSB chief executive officer Faisal Shahbudin said the programme was one of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives under the Sinar Alam component focusing on environmental conservation.
“We are pleased to be able to collaborate with JASNPP and Pifwa for the second year in the conservation of mangrove forests for the benefit of the local community and wildlife,” Faisal said at the event.
He thanked JASNPP and Pifwa for their support and cooperation in making the event a success and also said the programme would continue next year.
“JKSB will continue to play a role in educating the public on the importance of environmental conservation through our services and operations,” he added.
JASNPP director Sharifah Zakiah Syed Sahab said the community often underestimated the importance of protecting mangrove forests and urged them to participate in conservation efforts.
She also called on corporate and government bodies to work together to address environmental issues.
