A TOTAL of 1,264 affordable homes is currently being built in Bandar Putra, Kulai, and expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Johor housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the development by IOI Properties Group Bhd (IOIPG) was divided into four projects consisting of two Rumah Mampu Milik Johor (RMMJ), Johor Community Housing Type A (PKJA) and Johor Community Housing Type B (PKJB).
“The RMMJ units will be sold for RM150,000 each while PKJA selling price is RM42,000 and PKJB RM80,000 each.
“The four projects are currently being developed by IOIPG, with the first RMMJ in Kampung Pertanian expected to be completed by the end of this year,” he said.
RMMJ Kampung Pertanian is a townhouse project that has 306 units, with each measuring around 1,000sq ft with three rooms, he added.
“We expect the open ballot process to commence before the end of this year,” said Mohd Jafni.
“The project is currently at 90% and the remaining work right now is for Telekom Malaysia Bhd to finish the wiring and Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd to complete the water piping.
“The other RMMJ project is currently at 22% completion, PKJA is at 24% and PKJB is at 30%,” he said, adding that all these projects offered a total of 958 units.
In another development, Mohd Jafni said the state government, together with Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu), had allocated RM1mil to widen the reservoir in Taman Aman to address flash floods in the area.
“The work has started and is expected to be completed soon before the monsoon season starts.
“Our investigations reveal that the current capacity cannot retain a huge amount of water.
“The Public Works Department (JKR) is also working on enlarging the culvert from the reservoir leading to Sungai Skudai, from the current 0.6m to 1.2m,” he said, adding that this was one of the long-term solutions.
For the short term, Mohd Jafni said MPKu had started cleaning monsoon drains and other drainage networks to ensure that they would not become clogged during the rainy season.
“We have not experienced any major floods for the past 12 months since we carried out the work, which means that if we continue to clean our drains and there is no huge downpour, floods will not occur,” he said.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) is currently studying the construction of a 1km-long flood wall along Sungai Skudai, near Kampung Jaya Sepakat, to prevent water from flowing into the village, he disclosed.
“The village is located right next to the river, so JPS suggested that there should be a flood wall at the village, along with a water pump system,” he said.
