CARLSBERG treated football fans and media representatives to an entertaining weekend in Kuala Lumpur with a live viewing party and autograph session with two Liverpool legends – John Barnes and Sami Hyypia.

Their visit to Malaysia was part of a global celebration marking the longest-standing partnership in the English Premier League, between Carlsberg and Liverpool FC.

This season is the 30th anniversary of the partnership and to commemorate it, the brewer has launched a six-pack of cans which they have dubbed the Carlsberg Liverpool FC Legends Edition.

It depicts the designs of six Liverpool jerseys and each is attributed to a legend – Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher, Luis Garcia, Barnes and Hyypia.

Speaking at the events, Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini said: “There is something special about the bond between football and Carlsberg.

“Leveraging on our long and distinguished partnership with Liverpool Football Club, we, here in Malaysia, have been looking forward to celebrating our commitment to the fans by providing the best possible experience for each football occasion.

“Through the Carlsberg Liverpool FC Legends Edition cans and the special appearances of two living legends of the game – John and Sami – we are confident that we can continue to share the passion of football with Liverpool fans.”

At the events hosted at MST Golf Arena in The Gardens mall and the courtyard of Plaza Arkadia in Desa ParkCity, both Barnes and Hyypia said they were delighted to be in Malaysia again, and for what turned out to be a “wonderful “celebration” of Liverpool’s three decades with Carlsberg.

They also shared the “kind hospitality” they enjoyed from the local fans and brewery.
