SHAH Alam City Council (MBSA) will commence Phase 1 of its flood mitigation projects under the Shah Alam Sustainable Urban Drainage Master Plan (SAsud) by this year.
Shah Alam mayor Datuk Zamani Ahmad Mansor said the Selangor government had approved the first phase of the SAsud programme comprising 18 projects at a cost of RM30mil.
“We will also hold discussions with the Drainage and Irrigation Department to ensure there is no redundancy in carrying out flood mitigation projects.
“The projects in the first phase will be implemented in major flood-prone areas such as Taman Sri Muda, Taman Mesra and Section 13 in Shah Alam,” he said in a press conference after chairing MBSA’s full board meeting.
Zamani added that out of the 18 projects, four would be implemented in Taman Sri Muda.
Works will comprise improving the sewerage system, building a flood retention wall and a pump house, as well as upgrading and repairing the internal drainage, sewerage and related infrastructure.
On June 23, StarMetro reported that MBSA had approved 37 flood mitigation projects that would cost RM115.3mil.
The projects under SAsud would be rolled out in two phases in the next three years.
On waste collection and cleaning services in the Selangor capital city, Zamani said MBSA had allocated RM63mil this year.
“This is to ensure that waste collection and the cleaning work are carried out efficiently,” he said.
The mayor said MBSA had a meeting with KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) contractors on Aug 3 to address issues pertaining to domestic waste collection and cleaning.
“Through this meeting, MBSA via its Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Department can provide specific guidelines regarding waste collection and cleaning,” added Zamani.
