Teluk Intan in Perak will be buzzing with activity in September as the inaugural Teluk Intan Festival 2022 kicks off.

The festival from Sept 16 to 18 is jointly hosted by Teluk Intan Tourism Association and Teluk Intan Municipal Council.

According to association chairman Fong Seow Kai Chuan, activities and programmes had been planned for visitors.

“These include a ‘Sayangi Malaysia Colour Run’, art exhibitions, lantern procession, cultural activities, busking competition and blood donation drive.

“Aside from the iconic leaning clock tower, Teluk Intan has other attractions like river cruises to see an egret island, fireflies and heritage sites.

“We are expecting about 2,000 people to visit the town during the three-day festival,” she said, adding that the festival was expected to take place annually.

Tourism Perak, said Fong, was also including the event in its tourism calendar.

She added that the main aim of the festival was to promote the town as one of the many tourist destinations in Perak.

“After two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government launched a tourism recovery plan in May this year.

“In line with this effort, we intend to promote Teluk Intan as a place that can compete with other tourist cities through its uniqueness to attract domestic and foreign visitors.

“We want Teluk Intan to be a focal point for tourists,” she said.

Fong said the festival would also involve various industry players in the district.

“Some coffee factories will welcome visitors to its premises while several Nyonya kuih makers will hold demonstrations on how to make the delicacies.

“The association will work with hotels, product owners and industry players to make this festival a success.

“We will also put up a QR code at participating premises so that tourists can scan it to get updates on the activities that have been prepared,” she added.
