Parents worried about potential landslip at KL school

PARENTS of students at SMK Convent Bukit Nanas in Kuala Lumpur want the authorities to repair a slope bordering the school after a landslip in February.

They fear that the condition of the existing site, which borders the Kuala Lumpur Forest Eco Park, could worsen with the ongoing wet spell.

According to some parents, the school staff and students have discovered two other potentially dangerous locations, where a high volume of water is gushing through the retaining wall.

The landslip in February was not the first incident faced by the school, which had also experienced two minor landslides in 2019 and 2020.

The site of the landslip is just metres away from a block of 11 classrooms, which has been vacated as a precaution.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) came to clear up the site after the school had alerted the authorities including DBKL, Kuala Lumpur Forestry Department, Public Works Department and Education Ministry following the landslip.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Forestry Department director Mohd Hafiz Hamzah told StarMetro that the project to remedy the slope was at the open tender stage.

He said work would begin as soon as possible and assured that he would look into the matter.
