The implementation of the two-hour parking zone limit which began yesterday is targeted for USJ 9, USJ 10, SS19, Bandar Puteri Puchong and Bandar Sunway.
THOSE working in the USJ10 commercial area (Taipan Business Centre) are confused over Subang Jaya City Council’s (MBSJ) recently-introduced two-hour street parking limit.
StarMetro visited the area and noticed that while traffic seemed smooth, public feedback depicted a different story.
The “Zon Parkir 2 Jam”, known as two-hour parking zones, are identifiable by orange markings while reserved bays in red are for monthly rental occupied by businesses such as workshops, restaurants, banks or clinics.
“Last week, I saw a few people who were confused as to the difference between the red and orange bays and had to seek clarification with an MBSJ enforcement officer.
“More importantly, parking apps such as Smart Selangor Parking, Flexi Parking and Touch ‘n Go only allow users to park for one hour at a time.
“From experience, after my one hour is up, say at 12.30pm, I cannot immediately pay for the second hour. I have to wait until 1pm, which is strange,” said shop assistant Ryan Phang, 29.
StarMetro reported in February that MBSJ would introduce a two-hour limit for street parking from June 1 to free up parking space in high-traffic areas.
Implementation of the two-hour limit parking zone, which began yesterday, is designated for USJ9, USJ10, SS19, Bandar Puteri Puchong and Bandar Sunway.
Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Johary Anuar had said that the rates for these zones would be 60sen for half an hour or RM1.20 per hour.
He said that after the two-hour limit, private and commercial vehicles must vacate the occupied bays and these motorists would not be allowed to park in the same area.
He added that MBSJ would introduce a system to alert its enforcement team of vehicles parked in these zones for longer than allowed.
Johary also said the maximum two-hours-per-vehicle parking limit in USJ10 would be standardised in other areas soon.
StarMetro reported on May 27 that the two-hour parking limit in Subang Jaya from June 1 had yet to be gazetted.
An MBSJ spokesperson said it was seeking retrospective approval from Selangor govenment’s legal department to proceed with the implementation as scheduled.
“There are parking bays in certain areas of USJ10 that are painted in orange. We are waiting for the approval and will proceed to gazette the rule when it comes through.
“In the meantime, motorists parking in the orange boxes are to pay for the first and second hour but they must vacate the spot once their time is up,” said the spokesperson.Bank customer TL Teoh was enthusiastic about the new system, and said the two-hour limit would free up parking bays more quickly.
“Previously, we had to drive two or three rounds to find a parking bay,” he said.
But a veterinary clinic assistant, who only wanted to be known as Malar, said the new limit was problematic.
She said her customers had a difficult time using the two-hour parking system, especially if their appointments run over the limit.
“If they bring their pets in carriers, we will help by keeping the animals inside the clinic to allow the owners to find a new parking spot,” she said.
