THE SELAYANG Municipal Council (MPS) is running a used cooking oil recycling campaign at Ramadan bazaars in the municipality.
To date, the local council has collected 47kg of used cooking oil since the bazaars started on April 3.
In a statement, MPS corporate department director Mohamad Zin Masoad said MPS targeted to collect 250kg of used cooking oil by the end of the Ramadan bazaar campaign period on April 26.
“MPS is offering RM1.50 per kg of used cooking oil. Members of the public and traders who want to sell their used cooking oil can bring them over to our booth, which will be open between 3pm and 7pm.
“The campaign is a continuous activity by MPS. Last year, MPS collected 2,546kg of used cooking oil and paid out RM2,322.60 via various programmes and campaigns.
“We hope to collect more used cooking oil this year and increase the awareness on the importance of recycling,” he said.
He added that MPS was also distributing brochures on cleanliness, recycling and sustainable environment to people at the bazaars.
The next stop for the MPS used cooking oil collection booth would be in Ramadan bazaars in Taman Sunway Batu Caves (April 19), Tun Teja, Rawang (April 20), Kg Melayu Sg Buloh (April 21), Taman Samudera (April 25) and Putri Central Park (April 26).
