Main road to Taman Buana Perdana flooded, residents disappointed with MBPJ’s slow action

TAMAN Buana Perdana residents are disappointed that slow action by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has resulted in the main road leading to their neighbourhood being flooded yet again.

Jalan PJS 3/25 was partially flooded on Monday evening (Feb 21), following a downpour that affected parts of Petaling Jaya.

It is the main road leading to Taman Sri Buana, a residential area near Taman Medan.

“This is a hotspot that floods every time it rains,” said Taman Buana Perdana Residents Association committee member Roshen Raj.

“The road was partially flooded when the rain started at about 4pm. Although the floodwaters on the road receded about an hour later, the monsoon drains remained full.

“Our neighbourhood’s playground is also flooded. It will take about two weeks for water to recede as its drainage system is blocked and the playground is located at a lower-lying area.”

Taman Sri Buana residents believe that the flash floods are linked to poor drainage at a construction site along Jalan Sri Manja, opposite their residential area.

“MBPJ hasn’t done anything to date,” said Roshen.

“This is despite a promise by them to sort out the problem, after a visit by the PJ mayor and MBPJ Engineering Department director late last month.”

He said residents also questioned how MBPJ approved the construction project without a water catchment plan as part of its development.

Taman Buana Perdana was one of the residential areas that was also hit by December's disastrous floods.
