PANGGUNG Anniversary in Taman Botani Perdana hosted the Kuala Lumpur Drum and Dance Festival (KL Genta) 2022.
The annual event by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), which traditionally featured international participation to showcase diverse arts and cultures of the world, took a two-year hiatus in 2020 and 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year, the event made a comeback focusing on the rich local arts scene from selected states, highlighting their unique culture, costumes and heritage.
For the first time since its inception in 2015, troupes from local authorities of several cities, namely Petaling Jaya, Ipoh, Melaka, Kuantan, Seremban, Labuan and Kuala Terengganu, as well as the Penang State Secretary’s office, were invited to perform.
From now on, Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said Panggung Anniversary would be fully utilised for cultural and entertainment purposes.
He said it would be a one-stop centre for such events as well as a place for relaxation and recreation.
“Today’s programme shows that this venue will be an attraction for the whole family,” he said.
KL Genta 2022 was part of a line-up of programmes in conjunction with Federal Territory Day celebrations.
In a statement, DBKL said it hoped future KL Genta events would comprise international participants and become a tourism product.
