Floods: FT Ministry helped rescue efforts in Selangor from the outset, says Shahidan

DBKL officers and assets have been deployed to Taman Sri Muda dan Kampung Baru Hicom Shah Alam to help out in the flood rescue efforts.

THE Federal Territories Ministry has denied claims that it only deployed assets to help rescue efforts in Selangor four days after the flash floods hit.

Its minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said it first had to address the floods in Kuala Lumpur, including several incidents of landslides, and conduct clean-up works.

“At the same time we did not forget to contribute and help out flood victims outside of the Federal Territories.

“Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) deployed assets to various parts of Selangor from Saturday (Dec 19), while Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj) provided assistance since Friday (Dec 18),” he said in a statement Wednesday (Dec 22).

He said DBKL had helped in rescue efforts in Shah Alam including Kampung Baru Hicom, Section 26, Taman Sri Muda and Section 25.

“Since Dec 19, some 121 DBKL officers have been involved in the rescue with assets like a rescue tender, rescue boats, lorries and pickup trucks deployed.

“They helped to rescue 57 flood victims and distributed food,” he said.

Shahidan added that PPj had mobilised to help residents in Kampung Sungai Serai, Hulu Langat and Taman Baiduri, Dengkil on Friday, followed by Mukim Labu, Dengkil and Kampung Olak Lampik, Kuala Langat on Sunday (Dec 20).

“The ministry, through its agencies, is committed to lending assistance and contribution to help with flood relief efforts.

“We are monitoring the situation and in places where floodwaters have receded, food aid will be distributed to residents,” he said.
