PLANS are afoot to draw up a flood mitigation plan to tackle flash flood problems in Section 13, Shah Alam.
Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Engineering Department acting director Hanif Basree Abdul Rahman said there was a drainage master plan drawn up for Section 13 in 2019 and the first phase of planning was being carried out now.
“We have engaged consultants to build a retention pond and water pump on the outer ring road in the area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (JKR).
“Studies have been conducted and we have highlighted to the state government what needs to be done,” he told reporters after attending the city council’s full board meeting at Wisma MBSA.
He was asked what the local council’s plans were to tackle flash floods in the city after the heavy rain last Sunday that reached 148mm above the normal level.
The flood also affected the area surrounding Shah Alam Stadium in Section 13.
“The stadium is under flood levels, and the area is linked to Sungai Damansara.
“We cannot work alone, hence this project involves other relevant agencies.
“We need input from the Drainage and Irrigation Department and JKR too,” said Hanif.
During the full board meeting, Shah Alam mayor Datuk Zamani Ahmad Mansor said MBSA would implement a RM10 Compound Reduction Campaign for parking compounds throughout October in conjunction with the 21st anniversary of Shah Alam City.
This, he said, was to encourage people to settle their compound arrears.
The campaign starts today until Oct 31.
“MBSA is also offering a reduction on compound, up to 70% of the original amount,” said Zamani.
The types of compounds eligible for a reduction are offences under MBSA’s Barber Shop by-laws 1983, Garden by-laws 2005, Vandalism by-laws 2005, Food Establishment by-laws 2007, Food Handlers by-laws 2007, Advertising by-laws 2007, Hawkers by-laws (MBSA) 2007, MBSA Road Transport Order 2007 and Market by-laws 2007.
