Setting a gold standard

STAR Media Group (SMG) Bhd marks a significant milestone this year as the media giant celebrates its 50th anniversary with a gala celebration for its corporate clients and partners.

Held at W Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday night, a casual networking session kicked off SMG’s year-long anniversary celebrations.

Prior to the launch of the anniversary celebration, guests shared and reminisced about how the local brand had been part of their lives while growing up, providing reliable news to the people.

With the theme “50 Years of Shaping the Nation Together”, guests were shown a video featuring memorable moments, breaking news and unforgettable coverage – all of which centred on ordinary Malaysians and the nation’s unsung heroes.

The launch by SMG chief executive officer Alex Yeow also featured a dedicated website – 50.thestar.com.my – to showcase the group’s special anniversary activities and highlights for loyal readers and customers.

The website will feature segments such as “Starchive”, “Then & Now” and “From the Dark Room”, highlighting front covers, photos and classic advertisements since 1971.

“Reaching millions across its print and digital platforms, The Star continues to play its role as the people’s paper.

“On behalf of Star Media Group, I would like to thank you; our partners, clients and stakeholders, ” Yeow said in his opening speech at the 50th anniversary celebration.

Guests were treated to a sumptuous meal before adjourning to the Wet Deck, which provides a majestic view of the Petronas Twin Towers.

They then participated in a trivia session and a lucky draw.

Magnum 4D Bhd chief commercial officer Datuk Chan Chee Fai said the event was well-organised and adhered strictly to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).

“The event clearly shows the close bond and trust among SMG and its clients, living up to its motto of being reliable and effective.

“It is a top media organisation that delivers reliable and balanced news, ” he added.

IPG Media Brands Malaysia chief executive officer Bala Pomaleh said he was happy to meet Yeow and the media group’s senior management team at the gathering.

“I was thrilled to win a lucky draw prize as I am not usually one of the lucky ones.

“The prize will go to my family.

“I look forward to SMG evolving continuously and significantly in the future, with more innovative products and services, ” he added.
